EC3 to Heathrow
Heathrow: to London, Airport Transfer, taxi to: Heathrow

EC3

The eastern side of the City of London sitting by the Thames is simply steeped in history. The plush hotels may be the ideal choice for business travellers but just wandering around the centuries-old landmarks will dust off the scene of a bygone London. Aldgate was literally the gate through the London Wall out to the east but, of course, there was another way into this side of the City - but one you were unlikely to come out of - as Edward I's water gate into the Tower of London was increasingly used as an entrance for prisoners accused of treason, later known as Traitors' Gate. Over on the western side of the district Leadenhall Market is a glorious example of Victorian architecture but also an historic marketplace since Roman times, and still trading today. Architect Sir Horace Jones was also responsible for nearby Old Billingsgate Market - now an events venue - which overlooks the Thames. For more overlooking opportunities climb the 311 steps of London's Doric column The Monument, built in the 1670s to commemorate the Great Fire of London; and bringing the City's architecture bang up-to-date is 30 St Mary Axe, best known as The Gherkin, one of London's most iconic, super-sleek structures.

Heathrow

On the 5th anniversary of the first A380 passenger flight1, Heathrow is announcing that it is set to welcome more than thirty of the giant planes to the airport by 2020, as airlines strive to fly more passengers to Heathrow while at the same time keeping their costs down – both monetary and environmental.

EC2

It would be amiss not to mention that the historic institutions of the Guildhall and Bank of England fall within EC2 but this part of the City of London is aesthetically defined by its towers. The steel structure of Tower 42, formally the NatWest Tower, dominates Old Broad Street, but it was overtaken as the area's tallest building with the completion of the nearby Heron Tower in 2010. And if you think you're just going to get a crick in your neck looking sky(scraper)wards, consider becoming upwardly mobile by visiting Rhodes Twenty Four, where Gary Rhodes shows off his signature dishes, or Vertigo 42 for the dizzying height of champers and posh nosh; both with breathtaking views. If all this just whets your appetite for more, Broadgate Tower, fourth in the City's phallic parade, stands just north of Liverpool Street Station on Bishopsgate, and the concrete blocks of Barbican Towers are some of the highest residential buildings in London. At the foot of this trio of towers lies the illustrious Barbican Centre, which has an unrivalled programme of theatre, dance, art, classical music, modern beats, film seasons and children's events.

Heathrow

Heathrow has marked the anniversary of its 500,000th passenger to ride on its pods to celebrate a successful first 18 months and the loyalty of its business passengers. The day was marked with a visit from Transport Minister, Norman Baker who saw the technology first hand.

EC1

What to do and where to stay in London's EC1 neighbourhood
Located just on the outskirts of the City, EC1 is a rather trendy part of town. Covering Clerkenwell and Farringdon, it's home to some very cutting-edge restaurants around Smithfield Market, including the Michelin starred St John with its particular brand of "nose to tail" dining. North of the market, London's original gastropub The Eagle opened its doors in 1991 and now it's surrounded by a host of similar establishments - The Well, The Peasant and The Coach & Horses - giving this district a cheerful, chilled-out vibe; a wonderful place for papers and pints on a weekend. Exmouth Market, a street of lovely independent shops during the day, continues the funky atmosphere with its bustling, continental-style bars and restaurants, twinkling with fairy lights overhead. Head here for a pre-theatre meal or post-show drinks if you're planning a visit to nearby Sadler's Wells, London's favourite contemporary dance venue. If you're looking for something oh-so sparkly for a loved one, Hatton Garden in the southwest corner of the district is the place to shop for diamonds and bejewelled rings, largely populated by nervous-looking guys and their expectant-looking gals.

Heathrow

Heathrow, in partnership with HACAN, NATS and British Airways, has launched a new trial to test whether creating ‘noise relief zones’ for communities under the flight path could ease disturbance for residents.

WC2

What to do and where to stay in London's WC2 neighbourhood
The west central postcode of WC2 takes in part of the West End as well as the legal district around Holborn and the Strand. The centre point of the area is arguably Covent Garden, with its excellent shopping, famous cobbled piazza and the numerous nearby theatres. Attracting some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, the hallowed stages of London's Theatreland rival those of New York's Broadway in the popularity stakes and attract millions of visitors each year. If it's movies you're after, Leicester Square and its environs boast many of London's most famous cinemas which fling out their red carpets for special film premieres throughout the year. The southern border of WC2 runs along the Embankment and includes Charing Cross Station and the magnificent Somerset House, which boasts the Courtauld Gallery collection as well as an open square which hosts ice skating in the winter and open-air concerts in the summer. To the east, WC2 includes the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand and the pretty Lincoln's Inn Fields, home of the marvellous Sir John Soane's Museum and a few tennis courts, which attract students from the neighbouring London School of Economics in the summer months. In recent years, estate agents have tried to rebrand the WC1 and WC2 areas of London as "Midtown" but it has yet to really catch on.

Heathrow

Heathrow Airport today announced that the new Terminal 2 will be home to STAR Alliance and Aer Lingus flights as well as Virgin Atlantic’s domestic routes when it opens in 2014.

London WC1 – Another Square Mile

Stretching from Euston Road to Grays Inn Road and High Holborn taking in Russell Square, Bloomsbury, Kings Cross and St Pancras along the way, this magnificent square is home to people of all walks of life but is most well known for the British Museum, students and University life.

An area off the beaten track but central and surrounded by Oxford Street to the west, Leicester Square and Soho to the south making it the perfect quiet place in the middle of the hustle and bustle of city life.
London WC1 is one of the most sought after areas in London with shopping, restaurants, office space, hotels and parking all being at a premium with property sales and rent all to match.

The WC1 postcode is short for Western Central One, not West City One as many first believe but while western was cool for the 1800s English, West City, while more Liverpool sounding, has a certain ring, whichever definition, WC1 has lots to offer from property to office space and quiet spots to rest.

The area of WC1 encompasses a great swathe of property from Bedford Square, Bloomsbury Square, High Holborn, Holborn, Queen Square, Russell Square and Gray’s Inn Road. We hope this WC1 guide brings you what you need, from restaurants in WC1, office space in WC1, businesses in WC1, estate agents for WC1 property and Hotels in WC1.

London WC1 has lots to offer, delve into WC1.co.uk and find out about current events, property prices in WC1, restaurants and places to visit and sights to see.
